Family Cycling Holidays

Family cycling holidays are great when everybody cycles, but this is not always the case! We are delighted to welcome families to La Clusaz, even if only one family member is a cyclist. La Clusaz is a fantastic place to spend all or part of a family vacation: there really is something for everyone.

See below for a sample of the many things to see and do in the village and surrounding area.

We can help you organise any of these activities: you only have to ask and we’ll take care of the reservations for you as well as help with logistics. Please contact us for more information.

As well as the pool in the hotel, there is a huge open-air public swimming pool at the Espace Aquatique des Aravis, a very short walk from the hotel in the centre of the village. With an indoor and outdoor pool, a slide for the kids and the chance to try aquabiking, there’s plenty of fun for those with energy to burn.

Archery-minipicBelier Club and children’s village

Children aged 3 to 11 and 12 to 15 can join groups at the Belier Club with all sorts of age-appropriate activities. These include bouncy castles, archery, art, bivouacs, hiking, rafting, trampolining, tennis and farm visits, all while practising their French if they want to. The staff are of course fully qualified, enthusiastic and love helping the kids have fun.

Canyoning is descending a river bed in a narrow gorge or canyon. It involves swimming, sliding down water chutes and jumping into pools, and may also include abseiling. Wetsuits, helmets and safety equipment are provided. There are several good spots to do this close to La Clusaz and half-day trips are organised through the Bureau des Guides. Children from age 13.

The “Forêt des Dodes Parcours Aventure” is a high-wire adventure park in the forest just five kilometres from La Clusaz. It offers two aerial rope parks, one suitable for children at least 1 metre tall, which takes about an hour, the other for children – or adults – at least 1.40 metres tall, taking two to two and half hours to complete. Excitement guaranteed!

There is a 6-hole golf course on the Plateau des Confins, a short bus ride from the centre of La Clusaz. It is hard to imagine a more beautiful setting, near the lake and surrounded by mountains and wooden chalets. A professional gives lessons to beginners and experienced players. The site includes a driving range, a practice green and a miniature golf course. Details here.

The Compagnie des Guides organises hikes from easy strolls to high mountain treks. You can see ibex, chamois and marmots, as well as a range of birds and Alpine flowers. There are hikes for families with children 6+, and 7 to 13 year-olds can join half-day expeditions such as “huts and knots”, “marmot watching” or “fossil hunting”. All that and nights in a mountain refuge!

The equestrian centre in La Clusaz is called Aravis Passion. Just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel, they welcome all levels from beginners to experienced riders, and all ages from children to adults. Treks and lessons are arranged from one hour to the whole week. Please book early: they are very busy, especially in July and August.

Balloon-minipicHot-air ballooning

For something completely different … If you have never flown in a hot-air balloon, what better place to do so than over the breathtaking beauty of the Alps? The Compagnie des Ballons organises flights from La Clusaz or a nearby site whenever the weather is suitable. This is a truly unforgettable experience.

VTT-minipicMountain Biking

The mountain bike school at La Clusaz is called On Bike. You can book anything from a half-day to a full week of lessons, from beginners to experienced riders. The school caters for children from 12 to 15 years old in one group, and teenagers and adults in another. There’s no need to bring your own bike: all the equipment you need is available for hire.

Tandem flights can be organised in La Clusaz, with the Parapente’S’enciel. There is a highly reputed paragliding school called Flyeo in Doussard, where you can take a 3-day or 5-day course, leading to solo flights. This is at the southern tip of the Lac d’Annecy, a 45 minute drive from La Clusaz, so needs special transport arrangements. Children from age 13.

Climbing-minipicRock climbing

Adults and children aged 5 years and over can learn rock climbing with the Compagnie des Guides in La Clusaz. The children are grouped by age, 5 – 7, 8 – 12 and 13 – 17. Times, durations and costs vary by age group, and all material is provided. Teenagers from 13 years can tackle the via ferrata, a secure mountain trail with a fixed wire rope along a cliff face.

Access to the 5 local courts is organised through the Club des Sports. Lessons are available from qualified instructors, for all levels, children or adult. Tennis is a very popular sport in France so in the high season it is nearly always possible to find a partner of the right age and a similar level through the Club des Sports.

luge minipicToboggan

La Clusaz has an 800 metre summer toboggan run, which is great fun for all the family. You can descend alone or in pairs, at your own speed, as often as you want. Most kids absolutely love this and will be begging for more! Tickets are sold at the Tourist Office.
